Importance of Chardham Yatra For Hindu Religion

Why Chardham yatra is so important in Hindu religion? This is a question which crosses every mind. This yatra is so auspicious that every year more than 200000 people visit these Holy temples.

In Hindu mythology, since thousand years, it is believed that an ancient Hindu philosopher Sri Adi Shankaracharya used the word “Char dham” which means four Holy destinations or abodes of God. These four Holy destinations include Sri Badrinath, Sri Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. All are situated in a state also known as God’s home, Uttarakhand. The state is famous for beautiful mountain surrounded by thick sheets of snow and pure environment. Here the nature is at its best and actually opens door to heaven. While looking at snow clad Himalayan mountain range, feel hypnotized.

People in India believe that this yatra washes away all sins and opens doors for “Moksha”. Every human being should consider visiting these four Holy places at least once in their life. All four destinations hold great significance. According to the Hindu religion, in Sri Badrinath Dham freedom from incarnation was acquired by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Badrinath is a gateway to the yatra. The famous Kedarnath temple is the next destination. Gangotri and Sri Yamunotri Dham are origins of famous rivers Ganga and Yamuna respectively. After visiting these Holy places, you achieve a complete peace of mind.

People on a tour to explore colorful India should make it a compulsion to visit these Holy places and achieve blessings of God. Earlier people used to visit these dhams by foot which wasn’t that easy for them but faith in God provided them the power to reach God’s own home by taking great pains. But things have changed a lot now and the credit goes to Uttaranchal Government for huge improvement in the infrastructure. Many people still prefer traveling by foot but with less pain as the roads are much improved now. Numbers of facilities are now provided to devotees to make their yatra comfortable. Attractive tour packages are offered to attract maximum visitors. Under these packages you can choose to travel by bus, car or even by helicopter. Summer is the peak season for the yatra as maximum people prefer traveling during this holiday period. So you should always book the tour package 6-7 days before the tour. A planned tour keeps you away from the “summer rush” and makes your yatra a wonderful experience worth cherishing. In winters it is advisable to avoid the tour because of extreme cold conditions in the region. For a comfortable stay, number of Hotels and resorts has come up to make it a blissful experience. These are well equipped with all modern facilities and are available in reasonable price range. After spending long hours in yatra, you can come back and relax at your resort.

It is a common belief that chardham yatra is only for old age people, which is a misconception. Once you start your tour, you start believing and experiencing people of all ages equally enjoy the yatra which is not only full of religious values but also adventure.
